Automatic conversation language
LittleDraft normally follows the conversation’s language while applying your intent and selected writing style. The writing profile’s usual language is a hint, not a reason to answer every recipient in that language. If the source mixes languages or your direction is ambiguous, specify the target language explicitly.
Your native-language preferences
In Preferences, choose the languages you comfortably read and write. Translate can be highlighted for other languages, and your first selected native language is used as the translation default. This preference does not force all outgoing replies into that language; they still follow the conversation unless you choose otherwise.
Read a message in another language
- Select the relevant email or text.
- Open the translation action in LittleDraft.
- Choose the target language and the reading workflow when offered.
- Review the translated text alongside the original meaning.
A reading translation helps you understand the message; it is not a reply and should not be inserted as if you wrote the sender’s words. Keep names, amounts, product codes, and other critical identifiers visible for comparison.
Write the answer in the intended language
Use the reply-language control or state the language in your direction. You can give a short instruction in your own language while asking for a reply in the recipient’s language. Read the result, then use the review or Mail handoff. If you translate an existing draft, confirm that the operation is working on the intended draft rather than translating the incoming email again.
A worked example
Incoming German: “Können Sie die Rechnung noch einmal schicken?”
Your English direction: “Reply in German. Say I’ll resend the invoice today. Don’t say it is already attached.”
Guten Tag,
ich schicke Ihnen die Rechnung heute noch einmal zu.
This wording promises a future action. The app has not sent or attached the invoice. Add the actual file or perform the action before sending wording that says it has already happened.
Review meaning, not just fluency
- Check whether a request became a promise or a possibility became a certainty.
- Confirm numbers, dates, currency, addresses, and order identifiers.
- Look for changed negation, such as “not received” becoming “received.”
- Check whether the greeting and level of formality fit the recipient.
Use extra care with contracts, complaints, medical information, and specialized terminology. A fluent translation is not proof of correctness.
Modes and usage
Cloud translation is an AI request and can use a reply credit. Private Mode routes supported translation locally without cloud fallback or cloud reply credits. LittleDraft currently enables English and German in Private Mode, subject to Apple’s model support. A broader language picker or a localized website does not guarantee that every language is available offline.
If the wrong language appears
Check the target-language selection, the sending account’s style, the source text, and any per-account Pre-Draft language override. State “Reply in [language]” in the current direction. If Private Mode reports an unsupported language, choose a supported language or explicitly switch to Cloud AI rather than expecting an automatic upload.
